aureole

aureole, 2024 -2025

A research project and luminous object, developed and created by Helena Tapajnova, Deirdre O’Leary and Lea Gerber (Atelier Volvox).
This luminous object, or lamp was developed by Lea Gerber (Atelier Volvox), Helena Tapajnova and myself. ion This luminous object emerged from an extensive research into the recycling of glass waste and the resulting possibilities for artistic production. Our collaboration began in January 2024 and after about two years we completed the research with a limited endition of ten aureole. The aureole investigares the relationship between glass and light, exploring how surface, transarancy, and color interact creating visual and spatial effects. Each aureole consists of transparent cast glass embedding fragments of colored glass, creating a sperical and multicolored illumination that seems to materialise light. A discreet brass suspension complements the circular form. The aureole reflects commitment to sustainability, collaboration and material experimentation. It stands as both an aesthetic and ethical gesture - an invitation to dwell in the quiet intimacy of the night and to reimagine the creative potential of waste.
